Set one featured Everybody Talks, The Middle, Beverly Hills, Follow you Down, Big Yellow Taxi, Black or White, and Perfect. Set two featured Some Nights, The Twist, People Get Ready, Wagon Wheel, Waiting on the World, I Lived, and Valerie. The Bend High Vocal Jazz Dynamics troupe wrapped up their year with a pot-luck at the Bend Park and Rec pavillion. Several of the CROCK team playing in the ensemble – and once again, special thanks to their music teacher Luke MacSween. The first tune is called Out of The Woods by Nickel Creek featuring some superb work by guitarist Damon George. And the following is a highlight reel of the remainder of the songs they played for the audience.
Members of the CROCK team, the Bend Student Jazz Ensemble, and the Bend High Vocal Dynamics Troupe put together some simply fantastic performances to kick-off another great (AND FREE!) Jazz At The Oxford music teaching and music instruction workshop featuring internationally recognized jazz vocalist Mary Stallings. Special thanks to Ms Stallings for offering some great perspectives on her career in music, and to producer Marshall Glickman, director Georges Bouhey (filling-in for Max on drums who was out sick), the Oxford Hotel, and ALL the Jazz At The Oxford sponors!

Several CROCKERS kept up the jam late-night at Flatbread this week. Some of the best playing by the kids ever! Check out their solos on keys, guitar, and then bass. Amazing talent! Yet another example of what the best piano teachers, guitar teachers, bass teachers, and drum teachers are able to offer for music instruction in Bend, Oregon.
Last week some of the CROCK team sat-in again with their music teacher Georges Bouhey at Flatbread in the Old Mill. Another nice rendition of the Barrett Strong classic Money (last played in April at flatbread if you want to compare it). A great example of how listening and practicing with your guitar teacher, bass teacher, and drum teacher pays off for music students in Bend, Oregon.
Members of the Cascades Rock Ensemble were invited to join their music teacher Georges Bouhey and the Band Director at Bend High (Steve Anderson) at the Oxford Hotel in downtown Bend to play some Jazz for the monthly first Friday artwalk. The CROCK team rocked the Volcanic Theatre Saturday night with two sets of music for their Spring 2013 Season Finale. Set one was 35 minutes of jams included Bluse in F, Funk#49, After Midnight, Evil Ways, and Mercy, Mercy, Mercy. Set two was 40 minutes of primarily new songs from this spring including The Chicken, Solar, Blue on Black, I Feel Good, and Love Me Two Times.These young, talented musicians took us to music school this time with some great drums, guitar, bass, piano, uke & conga playing. The following is a compilation video featuring a rendition of Blues in F, Kenny Wayne Shepard’s Blue on Black, and Santana’s Evil Ways (w/guest keyboardist Eden visiting from GrrrlzRock in Eugene).After Crock the JazzBros! went into full swing and took us all to music school with some great drums, sax, & bass playing. Here’s the CROCK kids from Team Bachelor and Team Newberry competing at the Tower Theatre in Bend, Oregon in the Central Oregon’s Got Talent fundraiser for Bend Park & Recreation’s adaptive sports program. Twenty different acts performed, from dance troupes to solo singers. The CROCK contingent of family and friends generated over $350 in ticket sales for a good cause. Special thanks to Sarah Thorsen of Bend Park & Recs, the sound & stage crew at the Tower Theatre, and our videographer Neil Costello.
The CROCK team was invited last night to join the JazzBros! at Franklin Crossing for the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Bend, Oregon. The following is a compilation video featuring a rendition of Santana’s Evil Ways, After Midnight with a guest solo by Jon Corona schooling us on Tenor Sax, some cool jazz soloing by Georges Bouhey teaching drums with the JazzBros! Trio – and finished-off with some messing around with Georges on drums.
To ring-in the New Year, CROCK members gig a new year’s party at the Kelley residence. Here’s a photo for posterity. The first set was: Blues in F, Little Wing, Take the Money & Run, Sunshine of Your Love. The second set was: Mercy Mercy Mercy, Blue on Black, After Midnight. Thank you Kelley family!

Here’s the culmination of our fall session. CROCK performed for the Cascades Academy Holiday program at the Century Center in Bend. The ensemble includes Laz Glickmann on keys; Damon, Christian, and Steven George on Guitar, Bass, & Drums (w/broken arm!); Judi Kelley on vocals, and Ryan Jasper on the second bass. Their first song is the classic Cannonball Adderley song written by Joe Zawinul back in 1966 called “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”
The closing number was also from 1966, “After Midnight” by JJ Cale.
