The camp featured a week of music instruction, jazz combos, and in general some fun music schooling with great musicians and music teachers in Oregon. Crock bassist Christian participated in a week-long jazz music camp put-on by Steve Owen and his colleagues at the University of Oregon. The camp featured a week of fine music instruction, jazz combos, and in general some excellent music schooling from great musicians and music teachers in Oregon. The week culminated with live performances as featured in the following clip.
Crock members and students of the Bend Student Jazz Ensemble performed and participated in a music teaching workshop featuring some fine improvisation instruction and music schooling from members of King Louie’s Portland Blues Review III. Special thanks to director Georges Bouhey for orchestrating the event. Here’s a clip of these fine students:

Members of the CROCK team, the Bend Student Jazz Ensemble, and the Bend High Vocal Dynamics Troupe put together some simply fantastic performances to kick-off another great (AND FREE!) Jazz At The Oxford music teaching and music instruction workshop featuring internationally recognized jazz vocalist Mary Stallings. Special thanks to Ms Stallings for offering some great perspectives on her career in music, and to producer Marshall Glickman, director Georges Bouhey (filling-in for Max on drums who was out sick), the Oxford Hotel, and ALL the Jazz At The Oxford sponors!

CROCK parents got some Jazz & Funk Music Schooling by Robert Walter’s 20th Congress at the Liquid Lounge in Bend, Oregon. Robert is one of America’s heaviest jazz-funk keyboardists. He and the Congress crew laid it out and gave us all some great real-world Piano Lessons, Drum Lessons, and Guitar Lessons. Check out the old-school rotating amplifer!

CROCK members got some roots music schooling by The Sugar Beets at the Belfry in Sisters, Oregon. And it was a nice renuion as well. Crock Producer Jean George went to school in Boulder, CO with the sugar beets own Scotty Perey. Scotty and the crew lay it out and give us all some great real-world Piano Lessons, Guitar Lessons, and Voice Lessons. Not to mention the great rythm section and fiddle player. Good Times!

Mel Brown Jazz Drummer is well known for his work with Martha and the Vandellas, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and more. Here’s some highlights:

All drummers got a chance to play, as did dozens of other kids on a variety of instruments. The workshop was kindly put on by the Jazz at the Oxford Series and is free of charge for young musicians to participate. Check it out here.

Bend Broadband’s Jazz at the Oxford announced today that they are launching a series of free educational music teaching workshops, led by several world-class jazz musicians targeted to Central Oregon music students.
The Saturday workshops will be held from 11:15am to 1:30pm on:
- January 19 Singer/Pianist Karrin Allyson at Summit High School
- February 23 Drummer Mel Brown at Summit High School
- March 16 Saxophonist Tom Scott at Mountain View High School

CROCK members caught a music performance lesson from Trombone Shorty as he tore up some killer New Orleans style funk-driven rock & roll at an ACL Live show in the Moody Theater in Austin, TX. This video is an entire show in HD we found on-line that was recorded in New Orleans at a slightly later date with some awesome special guests. The quality is stellar.

CROCK member Steven gets his first set of drums – Roland V-Drums with mesh heads. Perfect for drum lessons – these things are awesome. Musicians prefer acoustic drums (for good reasons) – but for rehearsals, where you’re trying to hear all the parts and really communicate musically, they are the bomb! And parents get to keep their sanity too!
